Definition:
Inventor or joint inventors who are applying for a patent on their own invention, or the person mentioned in 37 CFR 1.42, 1.43 or 1.47 who is applying for a patent in place of the inventor.
Initial Data Capture
Definition:
IDC is the first phase of the publication process for a patent where the patent file is electronically captured.
Washington Treaty
Definition:
Formally known as The Treaty on Intellectual Property in Respect of Integrated Circuits; China was among the first countries to sign this treaty, but the United States and Japan did not sign it due to disagreements with compulsory licences.
International Preliminary Examining Authority
Definition:
Either a national Office or an intergovernmental organization whose tasks include the establishment of examination reports on inventions which are the subject of international applications.
